Bedford's Street Party Bonanza!
From Woodland Drive to Moor End Road and Dovehouse Close,
residents across Bedford Borough will be joining in the national
day of celebration to mark the Royal Wedding on Friday 29th
April.
Bedford Borough Council has granted permission for a total of 19
street parties across the borough, with a further 6 expected to
take place on Council owned green spaces.
Earlier this year, the Council announced it would be offering
extra help to local residents who wanted to hold their own Royal
Wedding street party. Public drop in sessions were held in the
Harpur Suite, while the Council also waived the fees involved and
shortened the amount of notice needed from 12 weeks to just 2. A
single application form was also introduced.
Andy Pidgen, Events Manager, said: “Our aim was to make it as
easy as possible for people who wanted to hold a street party to do
so. Our drop-in sessions were well attended and from there the
number of applicants steadily rose.
“People who wanted to have a street party only needed to fill in
a single form and did not have to pay any Council fees which are
normally associated with street parties and road closures.
“I know many more people will be having their own parties which
do not require a road closure and we wish everyone in the borough a
great day of celebration.”
