Goldington Children's Centre

To congratulate Goldington Children’s Centre on the outcome of their recent Ofsted report, Chris Hilliard, the Executive Director for Children’s Services, Schools and Families, at Bedford Borough Council, visited the centre last week.

Ofsted carried out the centre’s first ever inspection in October 2010, and the centre was awarded a ‘good’ grading.

The centre is managed by Goldington Family Centre, a local charity which has been operating in the area for twenty-five years. It provides nursery, health and outreach support as well as vulnerable children’s services to families and children in the north-east of Bedford, and was first designated as a children’s centre in 2004.

Ofsted reported that the centre reaches out to a significant number of families in its surrounding areas and is inclusive and welcoming to all, with minority ethnic groups represented in most activities and courses. Ofsted also outlined that excellent links between the centre and the nursery enable the children visiting the centre to use the well-resourced play area and garden, which attaches the nursery to the centre.

Chris Hilliard said: “The centre radiates a positive energy and you can see the children are able to flourish within this environment. The staff are well equipped at developing both the skills and self-esteem of the children. These excellent relations with the parents make the centre a place where families feel comfortable and relaxed.”
