'Play.Live' Festival - Battle of the Bands
Wednesday 7th April
2010
Some friendly competition will take place at
Play.live’s ‘Battle of the Bands’ sport and music event, at
Biddenham Upper School, from 11am - 6.30pm, on Saturday 17th April.
The day will convey a community safety and anti-knife crime
message, and will feature performances from 12 year-old rap artist,
‘Lil Dreads.
Other young artists performing on the day
include: Ripper, Shivz Dot and Bigzy.
The lively occasion marks the culmination of
Bedford Borough Council’s Play.live programme, which witnessed
young people getting actively involved in various sporting and
creative sessions, over the last 24 week period, from November 2009
to March 2010. The project has aimed at promoting citizenship
through a packed diary of enjoyable engagement sessions including:
football, basketball, boxing and further outdoor activities.
Individuals are invited to showcase their
talents in either music or sport at the ‘Battle of the Bands’
event, up against ‘Lil Dreads’ who won the ‘It doesn’t have to
happen’ scheme freestyle competition run by the Home Office. As a
result of his endeavours he has been also been awarded a Gold Blue
Peter badge (one of only about 1,000 ever to be awarded).
Jason Foster, Youth Activities Manager, at
Bedford Borough Council said: “Play.live has been hugely successful
and we want to end the programme ‘crescendo’ style. Individuals can
come along, have some fun, and at the same time we will be able to
get our anti-crime message across.”
