What we do

We work in local schools and parks to encourage and facilitate free open access play for children and young people.  We run free activity sessions throughout the year in all weather conditions to encourage children to explore their natural environment and take risks in a safe situation.  The aim is to improve self-esteem, confidence and team work whilst having fun at the same time.

Open access

Open access means that children are free to come and go as they please.  Children of all ages are welcome, however under 8's must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult.  We encourage children to wrap up warm in the winter months, bring a drink and be prepared to get messy!

Example of our activities

Den building, sports sessions, bug hunting, rocket making, giant games, circus skills, fire cooking, assault courses, arts and crafts, frisbee throwing, kite flying, parties.

The Play Rangers Brand New Resource Book!

The Bedford Borough Council Play Rangers have produced a Play Resource Book designed  for children aged between 5 and 13, lunch time assistants and teachers.  The book contains instructions on how to play over 30 playground games and activities, with a strong focus on games that use little or no equipment and are easy to pick up.

Continuing old favourites such as 'Dodgeball', 'Ladders', 'Stuck in the Mud' and 'Whats the time Mr Wolf' and new games including 'Crusts and Crumbs', 'Elves Wizards & Giants', 'Monkey Football' and 'Yee Haaw!!!!', there is something to entertain everyone.

The booklet was created by The Play Rangers in conjunction with the Year 4 Play Leader Scheme which takes place in several lower schools across the Borough and will be launched in the near future, please contact the Play Rangers if you are interested in purchasing a copy at playrangers@bedford.gov.uk or call 01234 227254.  Copies are £5.00 per booklet.
