Licence Summary
|
Small Societies (non commercial organisations) who operate
Lotteries must be registered with the local Council (as the
Licensing Authority). The total value of the tickets for each
lottery must be no greater than £20,000 and in a full calendar year
this value for all lottery tickets must be no more than
£250,000.
Other lotteries may be unlawful or require licensing by the
Gambling Commission.

Eligibility Criteria
|
A society is a non-commercial organisation and established and
conducted:
For charitable purposes;
For the purpose of enabling participation in, or of supporting,
sport, athletics or a cultural activity; and
For any other commercial purpose other than that of private
gain.
The proceeds of the lottery must be devoted to one or other of
the above aims.

Application Evaluation Process
|
The application form for registration of a small society is
prescribed by law. New applicants will need to present a copy
of their ‘constitution’ and a declaration that they represent a
bona-fide non-commercial society. Each application form must
be accompanied by the required fee.
Applications may not be granted if:
The applicant has had an operating licence revoked or refused by
the Gambling Commission within the previous five ears.
The society cannot be deemed non-commercial
A person connected with the promotion of the lottery has been
convicted of a relevant offence.
Information provided by the applicant is found to be false or
misleading.

Will Tacit Consent Apply?
|
No. It is in the public interest that the
authority must process your application before it can be granted.
If you have not heard from the local authority within a reasonable
period, please contact it. You can do this
online if you applied through the UK Welcomes service or use
the contact details below. The target completion period for
processing these applications is 10 working days.
