Towns Fund: Midland Road regeneration – shopfront enhancements

Project value:  £1.84m

Project theme: regeneration

Midland Road is the main gateway route from Bedford Station to the town centre. It is currently in a poor physical condition, with unattractive buildings, narrow walkways and a poor carriageway layout creating a negative perception of the local environment.

The regeneration of Midland Road involves improvements to shopfronts for properties on the Midland Road corridor from the station into the town centre. The project will provide grants for up to 40 premises on Midland Road to enhance the quality of buildings on the route.

Individual buildings will receive grant funding for up to 80% of costs, and the property owners / business occupiers will be required to contribute 20% of the building costs.

The project has been broken down into eight zones.
