Economic Development
As the world’s economy recovers, Bedford Borough must ensure
that its communities have the best opportunity to access local jobs
and that the Borough is a great place for business to prosper.
Raising the profile of the area to promote our business offer
and encouraging growth in private sector jobs will be critical,
together with improving the skills of our communities to drive and
deliver competitive business that will enable our economy to grow.
Improving our core infrastructure and town centre is also essential
to unlock potential and help Bedford Borough thrive.
Our five strategic priorities are therefore:
1. Increase the Borough’s profile and image
by marketing it as a prime location and investment
opportunity;
2. Support business by encouraging high
value added inward investment, the retention and development of
local businesses and the establishment of new enterprises;
3. Improve the town centre by delivering new
investment and maximising its townscape and heritage
quality;
4. Increase economic participation and
develop a quality and competitive workforce through education,
skills development and removing barriers to employment;
5. Improve infrastructure in order to
foster enterprise, encoyurage investment and sustain economic
growth
