Way To Be Awards

Bedford Borough Council, in association with the Bedford and District Access Group and Bedford Shopmobility, has announced the second annual Way To Be awards. They recognise and celebrate those services and businesses, which do the most to make their facilities easily accessible for disabled people in the Borough.

The awards are designed to promote a more enlightened attitude to disability and encourage accessible environments that are beneficial not only for disabled people, but also for less-mobile older people and parents with young children.

The awards will go to local people or businesses who are most helpful, rather than just record the places which fulfil statutory accessibility regulations. The awards panel will again be looking for nominees who have helped a disabled person, or their carer, to feel good, attended to their needs respectfully and made them feel like telling other people about their experience.

Any business, voluntary organisation or public service can be nominated and that includes everyone from a small shop, supermarket, or transport provider to a pub, restaurant or leisure centre. The nominations forms take just a minute to fill in and can be picked up from Bedford Shopmobility at the Howard Centre, the Town Hall, Bedford Central Library or from the Council website on www.bedford.gov.uk/waytobe.

All nominations for The Way To Be Awards 2008 have to be received by 28th November. Any later nominations will be carried forward for the awards in 2009.
