The Town Centre Area Action Plan was submitted to the Secretary of State on 3 July 2006. A six week consultation period occured between 3 July to 11 August 2006. Please note that the consultation period has now finished. You should now only use the representation form if you have been asked to do so to clarify a representation. What happens next?

An independent Inspector will be appointed to consider all representations received in response to the consultation. The Inspector will consider whether the submitted document is ‘sound’ or whether any changes should be made before the document is adopted by the council. More information about the ‘soundness tests’ is given on the representation form and in the guidance notes. The Planning Inspectorate’s website also has more information.

We expect the appointed Inspector to formally ‘examine’ the document in May 2007. This assessment may take place using written methods only but for a document of this complexity and importance, it is likely that oral sessions will be held. The representation form allows you to say how you would like the Inspector to deal with your representation – orally or in writing.

If you have any queries regarding the Town Centre Area Action Plan or the consultation process, please call Ronald McKay on (01234) 221732 or email your query to bdf@bedford.gov.uk.

The final stages.

Following the formal examination, the Inspector will produce a report which may recommend changes to the plan. Those recommendations will be binding on the council. We will write to all those who have commented on the plan or who have asked to be kept up to date with progress to let them know when this report is available.

We expect the Core Strategy and Rural Issues Plan to be adopted in December 2007.
