It’s official Bedford Borough Council are no longer a “Good” performing council!

Following reassessment by government watchdog the Audit Commission we’ve gone one better. We are now officially one of the highest performing councils in the country, rated “Excellent” for providing services locally.

The assessment report, issued by the Audit Commission who spent a week with the council in April, commends the work carried out by the Borough Council.

The rating recognises that the Borough gives high quality service and outperforms many of the other top local authorities at a low cost and with a high level of customer satisfaction.

The reassessment follows a request by the Borough Council last Autumn when independently assessed figures showed services had improved from its existing ‘Good’ rating.

Every local authority in the country is rated by the Audit Commission. ‘Excellent’ is the highest award local councils can aspire to and Bedford Borough Council is proud that their performance has been recognised.

Mayor of Bedford, Frank Branston said:

“For years we have been rated a ‘Good’ council. It’s great that we have now been recognised for achieving more than many council’s currently rated as ‘Excellent’. Only the highest rated councils receive an ‘Excellent’ rating, especially amongst District Councils.

We are determined to hold onto this and will continue to provide the highest level of service as a new Unitary Council.”
