Skip Hire

Skip Permits

All skips placed on the highway must have a permit. Permits are only issued to recognised skip companies, and so it is the responsibility of the Company providing the skip to contact the Council and request a permit.

Skips are not allowed to be placed on the pavement except by special permission from an inspector who is satisfied that there is no risk to pedestrians or risk of damage to the footway.

  • Skips on the highway must be properly maintained and display a clearly visible contact number in case of emergency.
  • The skip must be guarded during the day by traffic cones.
  • The skip must have fitted lamps which light up the skip during the hours of darkness.
  • Skips must be removed from the highway not later than two days after it has been filled or upon expiry of the permit.

To report a skip causing a hazard contact: Bedfordshire Highways Section: Phone 01234-228661, highways@bedscc.gov.uk or fax 01234-408010
