Safety
Restaurants
Restaurants and other premises in which food is prepared for human consumption must comply with the Food Safety Regulations and the food sold must be of good quality and free from contamination.
This is achieved by ensuring that the premises are suitable and the practices used take account of food hazards.
Considerations for the premises include:
1) Its condition and ability to be effectively cleaned.
2) The drainage, lighting and ventilation.
3) The water supply and availability of hot water.
4) Toilet facilities for staff (and customers).
5) The provision of suitable equipment which is capable of being effectively cleaned.
6) Pest Control.
7) Waste disposal facilities.
Considerations for practices include:
1) The purchase of good quality ingredients.
2) Food storage facilities and arrangements.
3) Food preparation and cooking facilities and practices.
4) Appropriate temperature control.
5) Proposed food storage and service arrangements.
6) Trained, hygienic staff and management.
Environmental Health staff will visit from time to time to check on the premises and practices, and to provide advice.
In between visits you can contact us for advice on any food safety issues.
All food businesses must be notified to Environmental Health. If you are opening a new business, or are a new proprietor, or are planning to change the nature of the business, you must contact us. You may well have to be formally registered.
