Why recycle and compost your waste?
Recycling and composting waste is now an important part of reducing your household's impact on the environment. Bedfordshire is running out of landfill sites and government targets are encouraging all of us to play our part in reducing and recycling waste.
The composition of the average household bin is shown below:

Bedford Borough Council encourages residents to recycle at least 75% of this rubbish via the orange bag scheme for recyclable materials (paper, cardboard, tins, cans and plastic bottles) and a green waste collection scheme for garden waste.
The Council also provides a network of bring bank sites for recycling materials such as glass, paper and textiles. For information on where your nearest bring bank site is please download the list below.

IMPORTANT NEWS: CARTON RECYCLING COMES TO BEDFORD BOROUGH!We have recently installed several special new bring banks to enable residents to recycle cartons and tetra-pac's. These banks are easily identified by their orange lids! Bedford Borough Council is working with Tetrapac UK to encourage residents to recycle their fruit juice and milk cartons, which we
cannot currently accept in your orange recycling bags.

Bring Bank Improvement ProjectThe Council recently carried out a project to improve a number of bring bank sites to make them cleaner, more accessible and provide more information at the sites for residents. For more information on the project download the report below:
