Ranger Service

The Ranger Service
Park and Street Rangers

The Council has three teams of Rangers working to make the town a better place for residents and visitors. Amongst the most visible of our front line services, the Rangers can be seen around town in their green or red uniforms covering their area by bike – it's the quickest way to nip around their areas and they are more easily flagged down by local people when they need a word.

Please bear in mind when phoning the Rangers that they spend much of their time out of the office but they check their messages regularly and will return your call as soon as possible.

There are 2 downloadable files at the bottom of this page providing further information as follows:

  • a plan of Bedford showing the areas covered by the Rangers
  • a leaflet with more information on the Ranger Service

Urban Park Rangers

The three Urban Rangers concentrate on our parks and open spaces.  As well as being a reassuring presence for the public they carry out practical management work and deal with the problems that do crop up from time to time.

Each ranger has their own area to cover in the town, these being:
North - from A428 to the northern town boundary
Mid - from the river corridor through Bedford to the A428
South - the southern slice of Bedford and all of Kempston

Street Rangers (red uniforms)
Eight Street Rangers, working for both the Borough Council and BPHA, work directly with local communities to help make Bedford a safer and better cared for place.  Their work can range from organising neighbourhood events to dealing with graffiti and fly tipping problems. They work closely with schools and a wide range of other community groups and organisations.
