PPCA Guidance for Operators

Guidance for Operators of Prescribed Installations – Part A2 and Part B

If an industrial activity is required by the Pollution Prevention and Control Act 1999 to have a permit then the company operating the site must make a formal application. This application is required to contain detailed information on exactly what activity will be undertaken at the site, and the effects it will have on the environment. The application is then considered by an Officer in light of guidance issued by DEFRA.

New applications are advertised in local newspapers and bodies such as the Primary Care Trust and English Nature are consulted. If a permit is granted it will contain a number of conditions which the Operator has to abide by. These are designed to reduce the emissions of pollutants to acceptable levels. The conditions may involve the Operator installing new equipment to reduce the level of pollution, introduce monitoring systems to be able to directly assess levels of emissions and encourage the use of more environmentally friendly products.

To assit Operators, and for those who would like to know more about this regulatory regime, the following serise of advice notes has been prepared. All the application forms are also included here.

Should you have any concerns or would like further information, please do not hesitate to contact Environmental Health. You can download copies of the LAPPC advice notes and application forms using the link under Related Pages.
