Over 50s
As part of the Benefits and Community Welfare Unit, the Community Welfare Team works with the over 50’s to actively encourage involvement in local government to effect community change.
The team works to involve this important group of residents by encouraging participation in consultations and events, by involving them in innovative and accessible ways - providing information about the Council’s projects, the work of the Council and other services, through websites, newsletters and other exhibitions and other promotional work.
Working alone or with statutory or voluntary partners, the engagement work undertaken by the team links to the Council’s priorities, strategies and strategic partnerships and its officers represent the council on numerous working and steering groups.
This pro-active approach to community engagement was recognised in the recent Chartermark Assessment which re-awarded this prestigious quality mark in December 2006 to the Benefits and Community Welfare Unit and noted that the Community Welfare Team has a ‘major part to play’ and is ‘positively involved in the wider community.’
