Orange Bag Scheme

The orange bag collection scheme is a kerbside collection service that allows you to send your tins, cans, papers and plastic bottles for recycling rather than landfill. Bedford Borough Council provides a fortnightly collection service of orange bags to supplement your normal weekly refuse collection and your fortnightly green garden waste collections.

To participate in this scheme please follow the instructions below

To obtain a supply of orange bags you need to register to use the scheme.

Put your tins, cans, papers and plastic bottles into your orange bags.

Put your bags out for collection by 7.00am on your orange bag collection day. Please tie your orange bags and put them next to your black wheeled bin.

Your orange bags will be collected using a separate vehicle to that used for the contents of your black wheeled bins and taken for recycling.

Items that CAN go in the orange bags are as follows:

Tins and cans
Newspapers and magazines
Junk Mail
Thin cardboard packaging (cereal boxes etc)
Corrugated cardboard (torn into pieces no bigger than A4 / magazine size)
Catalouges
Telephone directories (yellow pages etc)
Plastic bottles and tops (please squash and bottle and then refit the top)

Items that CANNOT go int the orange bags are as follows:

Any plastic other than plastic bottles
Glass bottles and jars
Clothing and shoes
Crisp packets
Aerosols
Green waste
Kitchen waste
