LICENSING

The Borough Council is the licensing authority for alcohol sales and public music and dancing. To operate adult dancing including striptease and lap dancing a licence is required from the Council. Some people are wildly opposed to such entertainment being provided, while others feel such entertainment should be provided in non-residential areas and away from schools etc. Others say that as long as the entertainment is behind closed doors and for adults, it is okay.

MID-TERM review of the Statement of Licensing Policy

Licensing Act 2003

The Licensing Policy deals with the licensing of alcohol, late night refreshments, and entertainment. Between August and October 2006 the Council conducted a consultation to review its Statement of Licensing Policy. The Council instigated the consultation in response to the revised guidance from the Secretary of State under section 182 of the 2003 Act (‘the Guidance’). The consultation focussed on whether the existing policy should be amended as a consequence of the revised guidance. A questionnaire was produced that asked questions that also discussed annealed glass and licensing hours.
