Highways Maintenance

In agreement with Bedfordshire County Council under section 42 of the Highways Act 1980, the Borough Council currently undertakes the maintenance of urban unclassified roads, within the conurbation of Bedford and Kempston and the parishes of Biddenham, Bromham and Elstow. Bedfordshire County Council is responsible for classified roads, i.e. classified roads such as London Road, Goldington Road, High Street, etc. The Borough Council is responsible for routine highway maintenance covering repairs to footways (pavements), minor carriageway repairs (potholes), cleansing and minor repairs to street furniture.
