Housing
Empty Homes Loans
Bringing empty properties back into use continues to be a major objective of the Council. As part of its approach the Council will continue to offer loans to owners to bring properties that have been empty for 12 months or more, back into use, and where the Council believe that the housing market alone will not deliver the solution.

Loans offer an incentive to bring long term empty properties back into use. In return the Council will normally require nomination rights to lettings that will assist in meeting the needs of priority and non-priority homeless households or applicants in housing need.
Empty Property Loans may be offered to a maximum of £20,000 of the eligible works per dwelling. The property must have been empty for a period not less than 12 months. The Council will normally require as a condition of the loan, a 5 year nomination agreement that gives the Council first refusal on all new lettings. For more information about empty properties click here.
