Waste disposal

Domestic clinical waste

Although the Council does provide a free collection service for private individuals of diabetic waste, it is current policy to charge for the collection of all other clinical waste types. In light of these charges, we recommend that private individuals should contact their health visitor, GP, district nurse or home care assistant, who can arrange for free collections to take place.

To request a domestic clinical waste collection, please click here and complete the online form.

Items that should go in your sharps box are as follows:

  • Syringes
  • Needles
  • Blades
  • Any other hard/sharp Medical/Clinical Waste

If you are a business and would like to receive a quote from Bedford Borough Council to carry out this service, please contact our helpdesk on 0800 121 8888, or e-mail us at streetcare@bedford.gov.uk.  We are able to offer competitive rates and a service that can be tailored to meet your exact requirements.

If you are a private individual and would like to arrange for your diabetic waste to be collected, please contact our helpdesk on 0800 121 8888, or use our online request form.
