Dog Warden

The Dog Warden is employed by the Council to deal with matters relating to dog ownership. This includes advice and assistance, as well as enforcing various laws which relate to the keeping of dogs.

The Dog Warden is available to give talks to schools and community groups on issues such as Responsible Dog Ownership and Dog Fouling. Incorporated within these presentations are competitions and quizzes, as well as opportunities to meet, touch and handle a dog. Talks on Responsible Dog Ownership cover subjects such as choosing a dog, feeding and caring for it, identification, dog fouling, training and control.

The Dog Warden also arranges sessions for micro-chipping dogs. This is a permanent means of identification, which is coupled with a register held by the Dog Warden. Stray and stolen dogs can be more easily reunited with their owners. The micro-chipping sessions take place about six times each year and are advertised in the local Press. A micro-chip costs under £20. This service is also offered for individuals by most veterinary practices.

The Dog Warden maintains registers of lost and stray dogs.

The Dog Warden often attends fun days, fetes and dog shows with one or more dogs and a display relating to dog ownership.
