Disability Equality Scheme

Bedford Borough Council is committed to setting excellent standards, as a provider of services and facilities, to all members of the public, and as an employer of people. However, we acknowledge that, at the present time, disabled people do not always have the same opportunities or choices as the rest of the community.

The Disability Equality Scheme for the period 2006-09 outlines how we will work towards standards which will meet the hopes and aspirations of disabled people. It seeks to ensure that we not only meet our statutory obligations, but that our plans and methods of working address the priorities of disabled people – in particular, those identified during the Council’s extensive public consultation ‘ Disability in Bedford –2005’.
