Consulting with Young People

At the end of last year, young people from across Bedford and Luton directed, acted and filmed a DVD, which is to be part of a resource pack created by young people, to show adults the best way to consult with them. The pack is a partnership project between Bedford Borough Council, Luton Youth Service and Connexions Bedfordshire.

The core group of young people that have worked on the project from the beginning had written the script. The film includes scenarios of good and bad practise when adults consult with young people, with the adult being played by a real actor.

Filming took place in Bedford, along the river and on the famous Butterfly Bridge and in Luton in the Connexions office and in the local park and local area for some scenes.

The young people worked very hard to get the filming completed in time, and even managed to finish early!

“The young people worked hard on producing a video to be exported to DVD as a guidance toll for people dealing with young people. They worked alongside adphonic who specialise in video and film production.”

Some comments from the young people involved:

  • “Really good day!”
  • “I got a chance to direct, something I’ve not done before.”
  • “It was harder than I thought, but really interesting to do”
“The group worked really hard, they understood how to get the best results for camera shots, I’ve worked with adults who didn’t get it!” – Keith, Adphonic
