Bulky waste
Bedford Borough Council operates a special service for the collection of bulky household waste items that are too big to fit in your wheeled bin. In addition, residents in rural areas benefit from a free, twice yearly rural bulky waste service.
There is a £28 charge for each collection, and each collection can be for up to 5 items (except fridges and freezers). However, if you receive Council Tax and/or Housing benefits, you are entitled to a 50% reduction in the cost of a bulky waste collection.
The following household waste can be collected using bulky waste collection service:
As a rule the materials that are taken are those items that you would take with you if you moved house, for example:
- Free standing items of furniture Fridges/ freezers
- Sofas/beds
- Carpets
- Electric/push along lawn mowers
- Cookers etc.
How do I arrange a collection?
To arrange a collection you will need to complete our bulky waste request form and submit your payment. You can print the form off and then send it to us by clicking below:
Alternatively you can phone the Council helpdesk on 0800 121 8888 and we will post you a form, or you can visit the Town Hall reception and pick up a form there.
Cheques should be made payable to: Bedford Borough Council.
