The Anglia in Bloom judges came to Bedford on Wednesday 9 July 2008 in the most atrocious weather but we hoped the quality of our parks and the inspiring community projects they visited would make up for the awful weather...

GOLD AWARD FOR BEDFORD IN BLOOM

The town's 2008 entry was awarded the highest available standard with the presentation of a Gold Achievement certificate in the Anglia in Bloom regional competition. This is the culmination of three years of the campaign and a steady rise via the previous years' Silver and Silver-Gilt awards.

In addition, three individual sites were nominated by a panel of regional judges for Special Awards, they were:

  • Priory Country Park
  • Zero Carbon Castle (an environmental project in Castle Ward)
  • The Embankment Gardens

Britain in Bloom is a national competition that recognises the efforts of local people, businesses and organisations to make their village, town or city a beautiful environment. It's made up of 15 hard-fought regional competitions, our own being Anglia in Bloom.

We may have won gold this year but to continue this success Bedford in Bloom needs YOU!!!
There are many ways to get involved, here are just a few:

  • Take part in Pride in Bedford Clean-ups (Tel: 01234 227328)
  • Become a conservation volunteer (Tel: 01234 221951)
  • Promote Bedford in Bloom to your customers or local group (Tel: 01234 221749)
  • Put in a special effort in your garden at home or business frontage
  • Get involved with a local improvement project and if you're already doing one, let us know about it (Tel: 01234 227328)
  • Join or start up a Friends group in your local park or nature reserve (Tel: 01234 221749)
  • Get involved with the Bedford in Bloom organising committee (Tel: 01234 22174 )

We know there are a lot of active people and organisations out there but we don't always know who you are or what you're doing. It's vital to our success that the competition judges know as much as possible about what's happening in Bedford, so please let us know, whether you're at the start or end of your project.

Looking for support for your project?
Any photos of your project (especially before and after) would be great to include in the In Bloom portfolio. If you're looking for volunteers and support or just want to tell people about your project, we are happy to post information on this web page.

You'll be seeing more promotion about Bedford in Bloom around the town but if you'd like to know more, please contact Jacky on 01234 221749.

Plant of the Month
Look out in park notice boards for the Plant of the Month. A different plant is selected each month and, as well as a bit of interesting information about it, you'll also be guided to the parks and open spaces around Bedford and Kempston where you can see them.
