Household Asbestos Collections

Asbestos is a dangerous material and should normally be handled only by qualified contractors. Where a contractor removes asbestos from your home he should also dispose of the waste material he produces.

Asbestos cement was a common roofing and building material some years ago. It is normally a grey colour and hard and brittle. It contains a small proportion of asbestos fibres and is not normally dangerous unless it is broken up or crushed. Damage can release fibres into the air that could be breathed in.

REMEMBER: If you are in doubt whether you have asbestos in your home or workplace dont touch it! Call a contractor to check what the material is before you handle it.

The Council provides a collection service for small quantities of asbestos, normally sheets of asbestos cement, which have not been removed by a commercial contractor. The minimum charge for this service is currently £176.25.

If you have asbestos sheets or guttering to dispose of please call us on 0800 121 8888 for further information.
