Housing Strategy
Bedford Borough Council's Housing Strategy 2004-2007 provides policy guidance to strategic housing issues in the Borough of Bedford over a 3 year period commencing April 2004. Derived from the Community Plan 2001 -2004, it links to a series of internal and external strategies such as the Local Plan and Supporting People Strategies. The Strategy focuses on the aim from the Council's main priorities, 'Towards a Balanced and Sustainable Housing Market'.

Affordable HousingA review of needs in Bedford Borough was conducted via the Housing Requirements Study published in 2003. Bedford Borough Council commissioned Opinion Research Services (ORS) to undertake a comprehensive assessment of housing requirements in the Borough. The commissioning body was aware of the complexity of housing needs assessments and wished to ensure that reliable data was obtained and analysed in accordance with government guidance and then interpreted further through use of ORS housing market model. Bedford Borough Council have produced an affordable housing mixes guide to assist Developers, their agents and Registered Social Landlords to prepare affordable housing scheme briefs that meet the Council's requirements. The Houisng Corporation and Bedford Borough CouncilThe Housing Corporation has invited Bedford to become a 'pilot partner' in developing a local protocol. The proptocol was signed on the 13th March 2007 by Cllr Chris Black our Planning and Housing Portfolio Holder and Naisha Polaine from the Housing Corporation.
It is important for three reasons:
1. an opportunity to show how Bedford is being proactive in tackling local strategic housing issues;
2. an opportunity for Bedford to demonstrate positive partnership working with the Housing Corporation to achieve balanced housing markets and sustainable communities; and
3. an opportunity for cooperation between Bedford Borough Council and the Housing Corporation to achieve joint aims.
