Bedford Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment

Draft methodology

Bedford Borough Council and Renaissance Bedford are jointly undertaking a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA). The assessment is required by national planning guidance as a component of the evidence base to support the delivery of land for housing and to inform plan making.

Bedford Borough Council has recently begun the preparation of an Allocations and Designations Plan. The SHLAA will inform the preparation of the Allocations and Designations Plan by assessing potential housing sites. It will not however determine which sites should be allocated for housing development.

The draft methodology which explains the purpose of the study and its relationship to the Allocations and Designations plan is now available for consultation. If you would like to comment please do so by 8 July, sending any response to David Bailey Head of Housing and Planning Services, Town Hall, Bedford, MK40 1SJ or to bdf@bedford.gov.ukPlease identify the paragraph number to which your comment relates and include your name and address in your reply.

Please note that there will be an opportunity to submit any sites which you would wish the council to consider for allocation in the Allocations and Designations plan in the summer of this year as part of the Allocations and Designations plan “call for sites”. This is a separate process. There will not be a call for sites for the SHLAA. The purpose of this consultation is to seek your views on the SHLAA methodology.
