REMEMBER THEM...AND SHARE THE MEMORY

THE BEDFORDSHIRE EULOGY COLLECTION

In recognition of the unique insight and personal information eulogies provide into the life of a person who has passed away, Bedfordshire Archives Service is happy to offer a permanent home to those tributes written in memory of people who had a significant connection with the county. If you would like to submit the written text of a eulogy to this collection you may do so by e-mail or post.

We appreciate that this can be a difficult time however, before submitting a eulogy please read the following information regarding expectations relating to submission.

To be accepted by Bedfordshire Archives Service:

  • The person the eulogy is about must have had a significant connection with Bedfordshire, for example they spent part of their childhood, adulthood or working life in Bedfordshire. The link with the county must be clear for the eulogy to be considered for acceptance into the archive.
  • The permission of the person or persons who wrote the eulogy must have been obtained.
  • The eulogy cannot be known or considered to be defamatory in any way, although it is acknowledged that eulogies may contain accidental errors of fact.
  • Can be written documents on paper, as Microsoft Office Word files or in pdf. (pdf preferred)
  • Photographs of the deceased submitted as either prints, jpeg or tiff format, must have permission from the copyright holder. (Tiff preferred)
  • The eulogy must be accompanied by a fully completed submission form.
  • A named person must be given as someone Bedfordshire Archives can contact for any necessary clarification.

By submitting a eulogy to Bedfordshire Archives Service you are giving the service permission to use it themselves and also make it available to members of the public to read, use and make copies. For example school children undertaking local history projects, bereaved people wanting ideas on how to write a eulogy for their special person. The Archives Service would usually publish the eulogy online as part of their catalogues, and also make it available to people who physically visit the archives building.  If you would like to limit the viewing of your eulogy to these visitors please tell us.
